September 22, 2000 Two of the more important parts of Dad's life were the Army and Scouting. So it's not surprising that some of his Army training carried over to his leadership in the troop. In 1969, he used military discipline in planning and organizing the Great Adventure he wanted us to experience -- hiking the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal from Frederick, Maryland to Washington, DC. Parents and scouts knew that everything was in order when they received one of Dad's trip plans, which were titled, from military lingo, "Movement Orders." To celebrate this wonderful part of Dad's life, I will read a part of Movement Order number 6: ----- MOVEMENT ORDER NUMBER 6 - C & O CANAL HIKE (Amended) DATE & TIME OF DEPARTURE - 14 MARCH 1970 -8:00 AM (Leave lot) PLACE - North end of meeting hall, st.
